The OFFICIAL Green Bay vs. Washington Playoff Game Thread

Now its time to do or die, put up or shut up, or choose your own favorite cliche. MM and the team are making the right sounds. Now, the question is yet again, will the real Packers offense we've gotten used to for the last few years finally show up? At this point, I'm doubtful. Though I hope to be pleasantly surprised. IF the offense can start clicking before they're a few TD's down; IF the OL can keep Rodgers upright and not running for his life; IF the receivers finally get some separation; IF the running game gets going, and IF the coaches decide to stick with it; and IF the defense continues to play at a high level, the Packers should win. And then the quality of the teams they play goes up quite a bit. But, at this point, one at a time.

Moved to correct thread...

Quote
"I firmly believe that any man’s finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle – victorious."

-- Vince Lombardi

I am looking for our tired and battered football team to lay it all on the line today in Washington.

Offense, Defense, Special Teams 60 minutes of everything you've got...

Aaron, you are correct, it is playoff football where true legacies are defined;

Damarious, Quinten, Jake, your rookie seasons are over, this is a new season, bring all of the lessons you have learned by fire;

Jeff, Micah, Chris, Mason, Tim... today is the day to be special.

20 other current NFL teams and the 1,060 players on their 53 man rosters dream of being and wish they were where you are today.

Be proud, play proud, and show yourselves worthy of wearing the colors of Bart Starr, Arnie Herber, Brett Favre, Don Hutson, James Lofton, Johnny (BLOOD) McNally, Jimmy Taylor, Tony Canadeo, Clarke Hinkle, Paul Hornung, Forrest Gregg, Robert (CAL) Hubbard, Mike Michalske, Jim Ringo, Ray Nitschke, Reggie White, Herb Adderley, Willie Davis, Willie Wood, Henry Jordon, Dave Robinson, Earl (CURLY) Lambeau, Vince Lombardi... and all who walked before you.

We are there brother Leader, IT IS TIME FOR SOME PLAYOFF FOOTBALL!!!!
The Green Bay Packers never lost a football game.
They just ran out of time.

I am hopeful, but also rather dreading watching this game. Because I think that Washington is going to outplay and outperform the Packers today. And I hate writing this. But realistically, this team has been dead in the water for weeks offensively, and has been carried by the defense for a long time. Add in three defensive TD's in the last three weeks, and Rodgers' sudden inability to throw game winning TD's (Detroit being the glorious exception), and the Packers are most probably one and done. But, I truly, really hope and wish I am completely wrong.

Lowest seed from WC round would play at the 1 seed, so:

Minnesota (3 seed) would play AZ (2 seed)
Green Bay (5 seed) would play Carolina (1 seed)

Brother ricky, brother ricky, brother ricky... that is so last season.

The 2015 season is closed, tis a new season

”We few… we happy few, we band of brothers. For he today that sheds his blood with me shall be my brother!”

Or perhaps you prefer Al Pacino's Inch By Inch speech from Any Given Sunday

"I don't know what to say really.
Three minutes
to the biggest battle of our professional lives
all comes down to today.
Either
we heal
as a team
or we are going to crumble.
Inch by inch
play by play
till we're finished.
We are in hell right now, gentlemen
believe me
and
we can stay here
and get the shit kicked out of us
or
we can fight our way
back into the light.
We can climb out of hell.
One inch, at a time.

Now I can't do it for you.
I'm too old.
I look around and I see these young faces
and I think
I mean
I made every wrong choice a middle age man could make.
I uh....
I pissed away all my money
believe it or not.
I chased off
anyone who has ever loved me.
And lately,
I can't even stand the face I see in the mirror.

You know when you get old in life
things get taken from you.
That's, that's part of life.
But,
you only learn that when you start losing stuff.
You find out that life is just a game of inches.
So is football.
Because in either game
life or football
the margin for error is so small.
I mean
one half step too late or to early
you don't quite make it.
One half second too slow or too fast
and you don't quite catch it.
The inches we need are everywhere around us.
They are in ever break of the game
every minute, every second.

On this team, we fight for that inch
On this team, we tear ourselves, and everyone around us
to pieces for that inch.
We CLAW with our finger nails for that inch.
Cause we know
when we add up all those inches
that's going to make the fucking difference
between WINNING and LOSING
between LIVING and DYING.

I'll tell you this
in any fight
it is the guy who is willing to die
who is going to win that inch.
And I know
if I am going to have any life anymore
it is because, I am still willing to fight, and die for that inch
because that is what LIVING is.
The six inches in front of your face.

Now I can't make you do it.
You gotta look at the guy next to you.
Look into his eyes.
Now I think you are going to see a guy who will go that inch with you.
You are going to see a guy
who will sacrifice himself for this team
because he knows when it comes down to it,
you are gonna do the same thing for him.

That's a team, gentlemen
and either we heal now, as a team,
or we will die as individuals.
That's football guys.
That's all it is.
Now, whattaya gonna do?"

Screw 10-6, and screw the Super Bowl. There is no tomorrow, nor is there a yesterday without TODAY.

Today Aaron Rodgers and his 52 teammates create their legacy. Win or lose, I believe they will go on or down fighting and believing - nothing was ever won any other way.

On a side note, what the heck is up with our training staff?  First Montgomery misses practically a full season with a foot sprain and now Shields is going on 5 weeks with a concussion.  I'm all for player safety and don't hold any resentment about them not playing, but that's a pretty discrepancy between the length of time players usually miss with those injuries and then Ty and Sam.

I think it will be a close game, which ever way it goes. The Packers greater playoff experience is in their favor. The Redskins have home field advantage though.  The Packers are not the same team this year. Jordy hurt, O-line injuries, sub-par O-line backups and no premier tight end (Finley  type) are the differences. Defense is playing above expectations, but it is hard to stop scoring when the offense gives up points and the defense is on the sidelines. Ron Zook has not improved special teams all that much, but then I watched the Frighting Illini and didn't expect great immediate strides. I would like to see more of Abbrederis, Janis, and Quarless today.

It comes down to who wants it more, and I think GB has something to prove. I predict a win be a squeaker. I don't think "want it more" will apply to next weeks game though. If the Packers win this one, the next one could be ugly.

GB - 20  Wash - 17

Washington has some very good high draft picks that are playing well right now....
We need some take aways and we can win
